Question -
HOW DO I RESET THE SPEED SENSOR ON MY 2001 HYUNDAI SANTA FE?

Answer -
Hi, Juan.  Unfortunately, speed sensors cannot be reset.  If you can let me know what your problem is and which speed sensor you're talking about, I may be able to provide some guidance.

Answer
Depending on which engine you have, the computer looks at a different sensor to determing vehicle speed.  Please let me know which engine you have and whether the vehicle has ABS.  Also, please let me know if you speedometer and odometer are operating nomally.

What the P0500 code indicates is that there is some abnormality in the vehicle speed sensor signal monitored by the ECM.

If the problem is intermittent, it's possible you can clear the code and pass the emissions test if the problem doesn't reoccur again before the test.  But you must also drive the vehicle long enough for all the self-tests to run.  You can clear the code by disconnecting the battery.  If you do this and the check engine lamp doesn't come on after driving for a couple days, you may pass the test.
