Hyundai Repair: IGNITION COIL WIRING, torque converter, excel manual

Question
HT,I HAVE 7 OR 8 WIRES RUNNING TO THE COIL ON MY 89  EXCEL .TWO BLUE COLOR, 2 BLACK AND WHITE, ONE BLACK AND YELLOW/ ONE BLACK AND RED .AND A DOUBLE SET  WITH ONE LEAD,ONE WIRE ORANGE AND ONE WIRE WHITE.WHERE IS EACH SUPPOSED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE TERMINALS, ON THE COIL AND WHICH ONES GO TO THE BARISTOR. I THINK THAT IS WHAT IT IS CALLED.

Answer
Sorry, JW.  It's been so long since I've seen one of these I wasn't even thinking about the right coil.

I found a schematic on ALLDATA.  Here's what I can make out:

Positive coil terminal: Black/Yellow wire from start position of ignition switch

Resistor terminal: Black/red wire, hot when ignition on

Negative coil terminal: Black wire to distributor signal

That still leaves some wires off.  The schematic also doesn't show the wire from the other side of the resistor to the positive coil terminal.  You'll need to check the wires to see which ones go where, because obviously you have no black wire in your description but there's one in the schematic.  Here's my translation of what you'll need:

One wire hot when ignition switch in "start" position to coil positive terminal.

One wire hot when igntion switch in "on" position to a resister terminal.

One wire from the other resistor terminal to the positive coil terminal.

One wire from the coil to the distributor for spark pulse signal.  The schematic also shows a branch off of this wire going to the feedback carburetor and the torque converter lockup.  The splice is shown away from the coil connector but that's not necessarily the case.  According to the schematic, a white wire branches off at the splice.

I'll check tomorrow to see if I can dig up a 1989 Excel manual, but my employer is a new enough dealer that I doubt I'll find one.  I hope I've been at least some help.
