Hyundai Repair: Brakes and clanking, 2003 hyundai elantra, hyundai elantra

Question
2003 Hyundai Elantra, When the brakes are applied during stop and go traffic ther is a clanking noise coming from the rear panel or tire area. I removed the drums and everything seems to be in place,I checked the rear suspension parts and everything seems to be tight, I also checked the exhaust pipe and its secure. The banging is driving me nuts, any suggestions.

Answer
It may be best to have someone look at this for you.  Most experienced technicians will be able to tell whether it's something hitting the body, the suspension, or the brakes just by driving the car and hearing the noise.

Before you take it in, though, check your trunk to make everything is secure and cannot move around, especially the spare tire and jack.

If you want to try to sort it out yourself:

Brake noises typically continue as long as the brakes are applied.

Body noises (such as the exhaust contact you mentioned) tend to be knocking type noises and are usually very clear.

Suspension noises can be creaks, groans, and knocks, and although they are usually loud, they tend to be muffled by the body.
