Question -
I have a 2001 Hyunda Santa Fe 6cycl 2.7L.  It has shiftronic transmission installed with 92,000 miles.

Out of nowhere I start my car one day and suddenly can't shift from Park to Drive, when it reaches Neutral it gets stuck there, its hard to move it down to Drive. Also when you actually get it to shift into drive, and step on the gas pedal the car jumps and you can tell it erratically shift into 2 or 3 gear than back to 1st gear.  This is only happens with the car is cold started. This  also started happening about 4 days after the car was jump started. However when the car is hot the transmission can ne shifted to any gear perfectly.

I already changed the transmission fluids, and filters, and checked all the fuses and relays. Its not leaking any fluids, nor making any noise.

Can you help with any suggestions or recomendations?

Answer -
I'd look at the shifter cable and make sure it's not binding somewhere.  If it's binding, the transmission may not fully engage drive and may cause a host of irregular performance issues.  If it's still performing erratically after you resolve the issue with the gearshift, then it's time to look deeper as to what may be causing this.

Follow-up Questions---

I was told by the mechanic today that it could be the Torque Converter and Oil pump attached to it. That is causing the transmissions to act erracticaly. Now it actually has major delays in shifting, The car just jumps like a horse when you press the gas pedal while in any gear. Do you think this mechanic is correct could it be the converter, and would the conveter cause it to act this way?

Answer
It's pretty doubtful it's the torque converter.  A failed torque converter would cause sluggish acceleration.  The oil pump has a greater possibility, but we should concentrate on basics before suggesting expensive possibilities.  Has the gearshift issue been addressed by you or someone else?  Has the transmission fluid been checked?

I don't have your car in front of me, so I'm really in no position to question a qualified professional who is actually examining it, but no evidence has been presented here that this vehicle has been checked in some sort of logical fashion.
