Hyundai Repair: 2003 Tibouron GT V6 Transmission, bumper to bumper warranty, tibouron

Question
For the fear of not sounding like the stupid female.....MY CAR IS SICK!!!!LOL

When I pulled out of the parking lot the rpm's just kept going up and it never down shifted.
I noticed where it shows what gear you are in (in the dash) it was showing D1, and not just D.

Before this, my car has never been in the shop to be worked on, except to have regular maintance.

HELP!!!!!  PLEASSE!

Answer
If I recall correctly, this car has a "shiftronic" control, where the shift lever can be pulled down to the "D" position and then moved to the right to shift manually.  If you accidentally moved the lever to the right when at a stop, the transmission would then remain in first gear until you moved the lever to shift into second or the transmission computer felt it was unsafe to remain in first.  Here's what I'd suggest:

1.  Go out and drive the car again.  If it drives normally, think about the possibility that the above scenario occurred.  If you think it's possible, don't sweat it unless the problem occurs again and you see that the shifter is not positioned in the manual shift position.

2.  If the problem happens again, it may be a faulty shifter switch or pinched wiring in the shifter, or a faulty range switch on the transmission.  In this event, take it in to the dealer to have it checked.  Presuming you're under 60,000 miles, it should be covered by your bumper-to-bumper warranty.

(Of course, if you're outside the warranty period, you could choose to take the car to any shop for service, but you'll want to be sure this shop is capable of doing electrical and transaxle diagnosis.)
