Isuzu Repair: 1996 Isuzu Trooper changing gears, isuzu trooper, mecanic

I have a 1996 trooper and it is doing great at 135,000.  I have just started to notice that it is having a hard time switching from first to second gear (automatic transmission).  It will stay in first gear and sound like it is trying hard to get into second gear.  I do not know what to ask for when I take it to the mecanic.  Since I am a female, I've been ripped off before so any advice is most appreciated.

Well Annie the hard shifts could be due to it just needing to be flushed, filter changed and refilled with the correct type of fluid. I have had this very same problem and I had this done on my automatic and it worked after that without problems.Although if you have any questions about anything please please let me know okay?
