Jaguar Repair: 1983 jaguar xj6, climate control system, 1983 jaguar xj6

Question
The climate control quit blowing. I can hear it switching from defrost to vent but quit blowing. Was working fine then when the car was started the blower is not working. I think it might be the resistor? It does not blow on any setting, high, medium or low speed. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jeff,

The AC/heat system in the Jag is a complicated system but to just test the two fans you can take two jumper wires (one ground and one power) and test each fan motor first to see if it is the control or the fans at fault.

If you find the fans ok I advise that you get the Series III AC/Heat Climate Control manual (70 pages) from Jaguar first. The factory service manual also has a section on the Climate control system but it often refers to their factory test equipment but does have a lot of volt/ohm meter tests in it too.

The testing can be done with just a volt/ohm meter and a test light and a couple of jumper wires but the test sequence alone is five pages long. And 8 pages long in the factory manual.

There is a drum in the dash that does all the actual electrical switching and vacuum switching along with a ganged relay and an amplifier and several sensors. The drum is powered by a small electric motor as per needed.

I can not write enough in this program to go through the system that controls it.

The only thing I can do is put a wiring diagram up on my web site for you to copy if you don't have one.
