Jaguar Repair: My 1984 XJ6, floor pans, expert tips

Question
Howard,

So, my floor pans are replaced, all the carpet is in, and I got my re-upholstered rear seat in tonight. Tomorrow I'm thinking I may pick up a new starter as the solenoid seems to be failing more and more often. This is not my first starter job by any means, and it appears that I can actually reach the fasteners from over the top, before going in from underneath to remove the part. Just wondering if you have any expert tips specific to this job on the Series III XJ6. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Michael

Answer
Hi Michael,

The only other thing is to leave the large main cable on the solenoid and remove the other end of the cable from the firewall connection. Also watch the spacer that seems to be an after thought by the BLM engineers.

I love the car and have two of them but I often think of special four letter words for some of the engineering.
