Jaguar Repair: Horn, plastic nut, slip ring

Question
Hi. I recently bought a 1985 XJ6. When I turn the steering wheel to the right my horn honks. Do you know why this is happening and how to fix it. Thanks so much

Answer
Hi Niki,
You have a short in the horn components in the steering shaft so you have to remove the center pad by removing the screws in behind the wheel. Then see if it still blows in a right turn and if it does you will need to remove the large plastic nut in the center and extract the long horn rod and try it again to see if the problem is further down to the slip ring. Somewhere along this trail the horn is shorting out and you should be able to locate the problem in this area.
