Jaguar Repair: HELP!! Thanks for your site!, upper radiator hose, winter blows

Question
Hood alignment issue on 87 jag... it just wont latch. Will bonnet replacement help? i also have a deal where cold in winter blows and hot in summer. I assume it is the thermostat but have never changed one on the jaguar. I was hoping you can give me some direction and maybe point me at some documentation for under the hood. This is a project in honor of my late father and I am stuck. i love this car, it is the british racing green 87 xj6. Neat car and I have made a ton of progress. Oh yeah, where the heck is the drain plug for radiator. Sure is tight under the hood :-)

Answer
Hi Sean,
As for the hood latches, You need to determine what is wrong before trying to make any adjustment or replacing anything. So do both latches move and are they spring loaded to the latch position? And does neither side latch? And if you close the hood slowly, does the hood seem to be aligned?
There is a drain plug in the side of the block on the left side toward the rear of the engine. None in the radiator, you need to loosen a lower hose.
Cold in the winter and hot in the summer sounds like there is no thermostat in it. Jaguars and most other engines should never be run without a thermostat. Be sure to use a Jaguar thermostat which is mounted where most all thermostats are located at. The connection for the upper radiator hose on the engine.
