Jaguar Repair: A/C, climate control system, 1986 jaguar xjs

Question
Howard, on my question, I fogot to tell you that it is about a 1986 Jaguar XJS. Howard, when I turn the A/C on, cold air comes out the middle and side dashboard vents. However, the 2 vents on the console down by the driver's and passenger's feet, continue to blow warm air. I assume there is a vacuum leak somewhere in the lines, that prevents the "air flaps" on both sides of the console from completely closing, but I don't know. Is there an easy repair/replacement for this problem?

Thank you again.

Answer
Hi Jon,
Yes, the doors are controlled by vacuum motors and the vacuum motors are controlled by two vacuum switches that are cam operated by a rotating drum and one solenoid operated vacuum switch and one operated by the mode control switch. So a wrong movement or no movement can be the door sticking, a vacuum leak, the vacuum switch failure or the diaphragm in a vacuum motor failure.

You really need the AC manual to find and diagnose problems on this climate control system. It is a very complex system.

I can put a vacuum diagram up on my web site for you if that would help but the manual for testing the system is too large to put up on my web site and too large to go through all the diagnosis in this web program.
Let me know if you want the vacuum diagram.
