Jeep Repair: 2002 Jeep Liberty A/C compressor, two different places, jeep dealer

Question
I have an 02 jeep liberty with 99000 miles that makes a loud noise when starting the car, after driving, the noise dies down. I took it to two different places that determine its the air compressor going out. One place says its the bearing and its external and quoted a price of $859, the other place quoted $1150 and say they will be replacing internal parts like the receiver dryer, orifice tube, hi pressure switch, and its leaking freon, (although my air is working fine??) I'm also told that if I don't take care of this repair immediately it can cause other damage like the alternator, and other working parts. How do I know if I need the other internal parts which of course cost more, versus just the bearing? And is the price being quoted a reasonable one?, and should I take it to a Jeep Dealer to be repaired?

Answer
Well first of all I would only be guessing at a noise sense i can not hear it on my own. A new compressor would be a whole repair dryer yeah with your miles. They cant replace bearings inside the compressor they dont do that. U dont need to replace the tubes or any thing like that for a noise. And no if the compressor locks up it wont cause any damage to the alternator  it will at worst brake the belt thats it.I live in the Atlanta area I would be glad to look at it for u. I can get parts for less then they can and i wont BS u when it comes to the noise if its the compressor.
