Jeep Repair: Unknown noise, spicer u joints, dana spicer

Question
I have a 99 Wrangler, 4.0 liter w/ 4.5 suspension lift, air lockers front & rear
and 35" tires. The problem I'm having is, when I excelerate I hear a consistant
thumping noise that gets faster the faster I go. It sounds like something
rubbing on the cleets of the tires. It only happens under load though. I have
put it on four jack stands and run it in gear and I don't hear the noise. The
noise seems like I can hear it clearer through the floor board rather then
outside through the window. I have removed and reinstalled both front axal
shafts and changed the oil in the t-case. Can you give me some insight into
problem. THANKS

Answer
I would check the U-joints in the rear driveshaft. Usually they have a tendency to go out more often in lifted vehicles. If they are bad (you can tell by excessive play when twisting the axle back and forth)I would replace them with Dana Spicer U-joints. They are generally better made and designed to handle more stress.
