Jeep Repair: 1998 Jeep Cherokee, jeep cherokee, fuel pumps

Question
QUESTION: My jeep is having a hard time starting. It will turn over for a couple times and then start but I can not just turn the key and have it start anymore. Sometimes I have to stop trying to start it and then when I try again it will turn adn then start. Also it kind of rattles under the passenger side, and sounds like a sputter from the back muffler..? I know nothing about nothing on cars so I am not sure if I am describing these problems very well to begin with.....Thank you for any feedback.

QUESTION: The last 8 of the vin is WC185078.
If I lived in Atlanta, I would come see you but I live in Ohio! I hope that this is not goign to be too expensive to fix if it is the fuel pump and the converter....

Answer
U have a Grand Cherokee  They had issues with fuel pumps going out. This is one way u can find out if thats the case. When u first start it up turn the key over 3 times  but don't start it. On the 4th time start it up all the way  if it fires right up  then yeah  fuel pump is bleeding back and not holding pressure. The rattle  U dont have a converter recall on yours U can hit the converter with a hammer and if it rattles tehn that could be part of the cause of your rattle.
