Jeep Repair: 96 Grand Cherokee, latch assembly, rear liftgate

Question
The factoryinstalled alarm on my 96 GC keeps going off at all hours of the night(I'm very popular with the neighbors). i've narroweed the issue down to the rear liftgate. The door sensor display up front shows constantly that the rear liftgate is open. I've checked the liftgate itself, but I can't find any sensor. Can you help me out, I don't want to disconnect the alarm.

LIFTGATE AJAR SWITCH
The liftgate ajar switch is integral to the liftgate latch assembly on the liftgate. It is a momentary-type switch that is open when the liftgate is closed, and closed when the liftgate is open.

The liftgate ajar switch cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, the liftgate latch assembly must be replaced.
