Jeep Repair: Short, jeep dealership, jeep dealer

Question
My 1996 Grand cherokee is having problems - if it sets for a little while the battery completely discharges and has to be boosted. I have had it to a Jeep dealership and 2 other mechanics and none can figure what is causing the problem.
At first it only said Rear Lamp failure - the Jeep dealer said there was no failure, but said it would take a while to trace down the short.
Since that time it has gotten a lot worse.  It is our two vehicle for the RV as well as my favorite vehicle to drive for work and pleasure.

Answer
Hello Tom,

If there are no interior lights that are comming on, make sure there is no accseories in the 12v outlet (cig lighter), and that the under hood light isn't on, if your jeep came with one. The under hood light has a tendancy to stay on with the hood closed. Also, try dissconecting the battery for a day, then re-connecting it. If the Jeep starts, this is a way to rule out any battery problems. Last of all, charge the battery up, and then pull any fuse. Then leave the Jeep and after awhile, try starting it. Continue doing this to each fuse, until the Jeep starts with out a boost, then identify the fuse, or let me know what # fuse it was in the block, and you will be able to tell what circuit is causing this. I hope I have helped you. Good luck with the Jeep! --Jeep4x4man
