Jeep Repair: Jeep problems, jeep problems, chevy tahoe

Question
I am having the same problem as this guy posted almost 2 years ago.

"My girlfriend owns a 1997 Wrangler 4X4 2.5L 4cyl with 94000 miles. She said it has been stalling out and dying on her when she goes to slow down, but restarts immediately. She had never changed her plugs or wires or air filter, so I did all of that for her and they desperately needed it. She said it happened again the other day so I am thinking it is her fuel filter. I told her to not drive it for fear of risking burning up her pump and leaning out the engine. The parts store said on her Jeep the filter sits atop her fuel pump and was only avail at the dealer. Do you think I am right in that it is her fuel filter and is there any way to get to it without dropping the tank? If not, any suggestions are appreciated. "

If removing the tank is the only way to get to it to fix it.  How much are we talking money and time wise at a body shop and how much of a pain is it really to do it on your own if you have some people who know what they are doing?

Thank You....

Bryan

Answer
I think that you are right in thinking that it could be the fuel filter. What i would do is go ahead and replace that and have the whole system flushed. this will at least make sure that you are getting the fuel you need to the motor and will elimanate any fuel problems (with the thought that the fuel pump is ok) as for dropping the tank, It is really not as hard as on some other trucks like the Chevy tahoe and suberbans (pain in the neck) but just keep in mind that dropping a tank with no gas in it is a lot easier than dropping a tank full of gas. Keep this in mind and i hope it helps, if not come back and we can take another look at it. Thanks for the question.
