Jeep Repair: Rear Axle Leaking, jeep cj 7, jeep cj

Question
Hi.  I have a 1981 Jeep CJ-7 with a factory rear AMC 20 axle and it leaking because the gasket is worn out. I have bought the lubricant and gasket so that I can drain what is left, replace the gasket, and refill it. I can not find a place to drain the lubricant or a place to refill it. Could you tell me how I can drain the lubricant and refill it.
Thanks,
Josh

Answer
You will have to remove the differential cover to drain the old fluid out and once the cover is reinstalled with a new gasket, you refill it via the plug on the front side of the differential.  The plug should be located on the front of the driver's side of the differential.  Some use a 3/8 rachet to remove, others have a square ended plug that can be removed with a wrench (about 9/16).  Fill the differential until it starts running out the refill hole and replace the plug.  Use 80-90 gear lube, I am partial to Slick 50 Gear Lube myself.
