Land Rover Repair: purchase or not to purchase, land rover lr3, 2005 land rover lr3

I am looking at a 2005 Land Rover LR3 V8. I have always owned Mercedes Benz so these are new to me.It is a very nice truck 70,000 miles and the ride is smooth. My issue is I have heard NOTHING good about them , I really like the truck , but do not want to get into more repair problems than I need. I service my Benz once a  year and that is all that is needed. Would you recommend this purchse ? The price is 16,000  they are going to put on new wipers, roters and repair the leather seats. I  do notice when you turn the a/c on and off it sounds like someone is opening and shutting the door, I also notice a tick in the engine , they tell me that is a common tick and not to worry. I am looking at this truck from a very well respected dealer. Your homesty would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dana

A tick in the engine is a red flag to me.  The statement that "ticks are common" is another.  Ticks are not common in those engines, and may be a sign of serious neglect.  Or the tick may be harmless.

The statement that the leather needs repair is another red flag.  Why?  Was the car mistreated?  My own Rover has over 120k miles and the leather is flawless.

The LR3 is really an excellent vehicle, but I do have those concerns with the one you saw.
