Land Rover Repair: Extended Warranty Suggestions, discovery series ii, extended warranty

Question
Hi,

I just purchased a 2000 Discovery Series II.  It has 113,000 miles on it, and the dealer suggested that I purchase an extended warranty.  He also said that many of these companies are in business today and out of business tomorrow, so I was hoping that you might be able recommend a reliable extended warranty. Many thanks!

Answer
My company is a dealer for APCO EasyCare, the extended warranty subsidiary of Ford, who owns Land Rover.  They provide the Land Rover Certified warranty at LR dealers. We're also a service agent for many other companies. So I have quite a bit of experience with extended warranty.

That said, I would suggest you get the truck serviced and take your chances with no warranty.  None of the good companies (ours, GE, etc) will write vehicles over 100k miles.

As the dealer told  you, the companies that write 100K plus vehicles are often here today, gone tomorrow.

You may find it useful to read about warranties on our web site, www.robisonservice.com > service > easycare.  There's a link to an article I wrote for ASA Shop magazine on that page that you might like.
