Land Rover Repair: 00 LR Disco ii will not shift from high, soleniod, high position

Question
I have a 2000 LR Disco ii. It drives and works fine in high. However, I cannot move the shifter from the high position. I have tried everything per the manual. I have read on several websites about things to do. One being an interlock soleniod that could be frozen up. I have looked all over for this thing and cannot find it. I have a Rave manual as well and still cannot figure out where it is located. How do I know if it even has one? The manual refers to "if equipped". Anything else that can cause this problem? Thanks

Answer
Hi Steven,

I'm not sure about the solenoid, but I do think its a question of cleaning and lubricating the shifter lever.  (Note: Check to make sure the TG fluid is at the right level).  Some owners mention that you should give a little gas when you try to shift to "L".

One owner wrote: "...basically, the handle is connected to a splined wheel with a collar that rotates forward and backward to actuate the high/low range. there is a rod going through this wheel that moves side to side to engage diff lock. if its still moving, you should be able to lubricate it without taking the whole box out. the site andy gives is a very good reference.

personally, my t-case shifter box was completely frozen, so i had to take it out and (carefully) beat it with a hammer to get it to move. the rod was especially well frozen inside the splined wheel. but grease it up well and use it from time to time, and it should keep working."

Once you have it moving, it is advised to engage it at least once a month.
