Land Rover Repair: Landrover freelander Td4, landrover freelander td4, landy

Question
Don't know if you know much about the freelander but this morning the landy started as usual but got round the corner and died. It had literally travelled about 100 yards then just gave up. We tried jump starting it but still would not start. Nothing happens when we turn the key. We were having problems with the starter moter not releasing fully/quickly enough on start up; do you think this could have anything to do with it?

Answer
Hi Heather,

could be related - how good is your battery?  For the starter of any vehicle to not release properly (grinding noise heard?) it could mean the solenoid has seized or there was not enough amperage to drive the shaft in, start the engine, reset the starter.

First thing I'd do is check out the battery then the coils.  Starter may be damaged if this problem was dragging on for awhile.  You may have to replace the starter as well as the battery.

Best of luck,
JohnMc
