Land Rover Repair: Discovery II Shuttle Valve, shuttle valve, blank response

Question
Hi
I have read a response you gave sometime ago to a customer regarding the Shuttle Valve on the Discovery II ABS Unit. I believe it was a 'fix' part brought out by LR in response to this common problem in 2006. I quote " As of March 2006, Land Rover sells a shuttle valve repair kit for under $100. You will have to remove the modulator and flip it over to install the valves on a workbench. Removal of the modulator, replacement of the valve, and refit to the vehicle takes 3 hours or so. "
I am asking from Australia.  I am interested in a Discovery II but this 'problem' is making me a little nervous.  I have asked a few well known Rover service centres and am getting a repair cost of around $1500??  I have mentioned the '$100' part and have received a blank response.   Can you help with any information on this.

Answer
Now that the vehicles are older it's become more common to replace the entire electronics and valve package, which as you found is more like $1,000.  However, the first step remains to test the system and determine what's actually needed.  Some cars don't need anything, while a few still need complete modulators at $2,200.  There is no one answer.

The only way to test this is with a Autologic or T4 system, so make sure the shop you choose actually has the training and equipment to do the job.  Otherwise they are just guessing and hoping.
