Land Rover Repair: Alarm and Lock system on 2003 Discovery II, security controller, autologic

Question
QUESTION: After the doors have been unlocked and the key is inserted in the ingition, sometimes the key is not able to turn the ingition.  It seems to stay in a locked position. Therefore unable to start the vehicle.  What could be the problem?

ANSWER: That's a simple question to answer . . . your ignition lock is going bad.  You can try some graphite lock lube, but eventually you will need a new steering lock.  I'd encourage you to change it before you get stranded with a locked steering wheel.  A lock costs about $400 and takes 1-2 hours to change with ordinary hand tools.

Best of luck with it!

QUESTION: Sorry, but I should have told you that when I unlock the doors the blinking light on the dash blinks steady. When I then put the key in the ignition the key will not turn at all and is immobilized with the light still blinking steady and will remain on until I lock the truck door with the key or FOB. I think the ECM may have to be reprogrammed or reset. I have tried the EKA code on the door lock to no avail. Any thoughts???

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Dwayne

Answer
The only way to answer your current question will be to connect an Autologic or T4 test system and interrogate the security controller.  There is no way to answer that at home or in the field.  I suspect the lock and alarm issues are separate, though
