Land Rover Repair: locked radio, uk cod, negative cable

Question
John,

I have the correct code for the radio, but initially read it wrong and inserted the wrong code a number of times, resulting in the radio screen changing from "code" to "locked". Is there anything I can do to get the unit back to "code" mode ?

I have tried John Robinson suggestion of letting the car run for an hour and a half, at which stage the radio should revert back to "code" mode, but this did not work.

Any other ideas ?

Regards

Andrew

Answer
Hi Andrew,

I've heard that the more wrong attempts you've made requires longer wait times.  Other LR owners have told me that they took long drives (several hours) with radio on before they were able to attempt to enter the correct code.

Another owner told me once that he disconnected the battery on his Disco overnight.  Next morning he reattached the negative cable and the radio went into a security mode.  He then drove the vehicle for a couple of hours with the radio on.  That was how he unlocked the radio and was able to enter the code correctly.

So, on a nice sunny Sunday morning (after disconnecting the battery overnight), reattach the battery and go for a nice drive with a loved one.  Make it a long drive.  :)

When you return home, turn off the radio then turn it back on and hopefully you'll be able to enter the code.  IF you can't, you'll need the help from (gulp) the dealer. $$$

Best of luck,

JohnMc

NB:  I've heard of a service on-line that provides help with codes but there's a fee.  Don't know if they are any good but you may want to check them out...
