Land Rover Repair: Transmission Light, land rover discovery, electronic transmissions

Question
I have an 98 Land rover discovery V8i with 150000 kilometers on the clock, recently we took it on the beach and then washed the underside of the car in a full force upward car wash, not soon after the transmission light came on and has stayed on ever since, could this be realated to the underwash water getting into the sensor, as there is plenty of fluid in the system, and it doesn't smell burnt. Unfortunatley I am in Australia.

Answer
98 Discoveries don't have electronic transmissions.  The light you refer to is probably the trans fluid temp warning.  The sensors go bad all the time.  The sensor is in the trans cooler line behind the radiator on the left side.  It's got two wires - try unplugging them.  Make sure the trans is not too hot but almost always that light is a result of a bad sensor, not a bad gearbox
