Land Rover Repair: warning lights, compatible scanner, limp home

Hi , I'm at a loss and so are most of the garages i have taken the car to ,a discovery 2003 gs auto the car shows two lights "S" and "M" and the car reverts back to 3rd gear until i turn off the ignition and reset.
It doesn't always do it but it's getting more common but now the lights don't flash but it still reverts to 3rd gear until reset, i have taken it to 3 garages dealing with "Landrover" but the computer shows very little and they are at a loss. can you help ??

Generally, flashing S&M lights indicate a bad battery.  Another cause is water ingressing into the neutral safety position selector switch on the side of the transmission and/or into the wiring related to that switch.  There is a TSB on this, which can be obtained from Alldata.  

I have also had the S&M flash when there is a bad connection to the body control unit.  

If the transmission goes into limp home mode (3rd gear), there should be a code in there if you are using a factory compatible scanner.
