Land Rover Repair: Rear main crank shaft bearing, crank shaft, ring seal

Hi John ,Can it be removed taking the sump off with the engine in situ to renew seals.

Answer
There are two components to the rear main seal.  You can replace the cross seals between bearing cap and block by removing the pan.  You'd have to remove the transmission to change the actual ring seal on the crankshaft.
