Land Rover Repair: Intermittent 00 Disco shutting down, test gear, autologic

Question
A few days ago my '00 Disco II suddenly shut off while I
was at a stop light. I put it in park to try and restart,
nothing. Then I couldn't get it out of "P" to push it out
of the way for about 10 minutes.  Finally got it in gear
and had it towed to an independent LR mechanic.

It started up for him the next morning the shut off after 4
or 5 minutes.  He's been able to repeat the process several
times but hasn't found the cause.  We are both leaning
toward a problem with the alarm system.  When starting it
now there are 3 audible beeps and periodically the
emergency flashers start flashing out of the blue.

What should we check short of replacing the ECU?  It's
acting like it's been in a collision, or broken into and
shutting itself off.

Answer
I suggest you find a shop with autologic or t4 test gear (a real LR specialist, not a generalist garage) and have them observe the live data when the vehicle fails. That should tell the story.  Anything else is just guessing and parts changing.
