Land Rover Repair: door lock, latch, discovery

Question
Recently I went to unlock the drivers side door of my 97 Discovery 1, only to have a sudden stop in motion and the key get jammed. After a small struggle I got the key to release, but only after I heard a pop, which led to an inability to lock the door or trigger the alarm. Now the key simply turns without catching when inserted into the lock. Can you help?

You'd have to take the door apart to know for sure, but I'd guess the handle mechanism broke, or else the latch failed.  There are some rods connecting the two, and one end or the other has probably failed on you.  Expect a few hundred dollars in parts and 3 hours to fix it.
