Land Rover Repair: Freelander 2.0 TCIe, head gasket, white smoke

Question
I have a 1998 Freelander 2.0 TCIE.
1st question: Tailgate window regulator cable broke. For me to replaced the cables I had to open the regulator. After installation of the regulator with new cables I followed the instructions to re-calibrate the window. But the moment I connected the multiplug to regulator the window went all the way down in open position. I think this supposed to happend once the alarm is off. But with the switch on I tried to raise the window to get it calibrated . It just raise like 5 cm then goes back down in open position with an alarm beep. Is it the computer that  is keeping it open? Why?.Should I replace the old regulator with a new one?
2nd Question: Did quite some repair on the motor: all new rings, one new piston, new valves with new valve seals, new push rod followers, new head gasket, new nozzles and pressure plate for all the injectors. Engine starts without hesitating and idle perfectly at 850 rpm. But after about 5 minutes start to get white smoke. At first acceleration to drive forward I get a big plume of white smoke. Then after 5 minutes driving the white smoke subdue but not gone. Drives very good at high speed. Only the white smoke. There was air visible in the fuel return line. I sealed all the connections: no more air in the return line visible. I checked if the EGR valve was stuck but was manually moving upon opening. Compression test revealed  all pressures of above 21 bars. Checked pump timing was ok. I suspect that the Thermostat is not ok , not letting the engine get at operating temperature. What can be causing this white smoke( burning eyes)?
3rd Question: How to remove defualt values  and reset the EDC?

Answer
Here in the USA, the motor and cables are replaced as a unit.  What I thin is happening to you is that the cable travel is tripping the upper limit switch while it's still most of the way down. To correct that, you'd have to slide the window up and then tension it in the proper place.  The other possibility is that it's jamming on the way up and you are activing the anti-trap feature, which will cause it to reverse direction if it gets too tight

I can't help you on the engine as they don't offer that diesel in my country
