Question
QUESTION: I have a 2001 discovery 2,last summer i had the engine head replaced,About two weeks back while driving the engine light came on,It had a code #8cyl.missfired.I took it to the repair shop, the took it apart, found that the sleeve moved a bit upward & damaged the engine block gasket,it needs a new engine, whoverever it still runs, what caused this? & will it break eventually?

ANSWER: This is a common failure.  I am surprised that it is not overheating, but it eventually will.  This will also eventually cause the engine to totally fail at some point.

QUESTION: Is this a common problem with all Discovery [Landrover} or just the ones with the Bosch engines, the reason I ask I had a D1 with over 100,000 mls & had no engine problems, the D2 had 89,000 mls,I was also considering buying a 2004-2006 Discovery

Answer
This is common problem with all the 4.0 and 4.6 litre variants, whether they are bosch or gems engine management systems.  The 2003-2004 Discovery II have these same engines.  The 2005-2006 Discovery III is the LR3 and has a totally different powertrain.
