Land Rover Repair: Electrical Problem 99 Disco lights, land rover discovery, yevonne

Question
Hello John, I have a 99 Land Rover Discovery 1. My left headlight around a month ago became dim however I never replaced because it was still working. Just last week my right signal began to blink really fast so as I was driving home my Anti-lock brake light started flashing and the dash board lights came on without me turning them on. Is this problem caused by that one dimming headlight.

Answer
Hi Yevonne,

I can tell you that LR electronic problems can be really weird sometimes.  A dim headlight may indicate that voltage is not adequate for the bulb to light fully.  You should remove the lamp and see if the socket bulbholder is clean.  They have been known to become corroded and thus cause some strange problems, just like your description.

In fact, I'd take the time to check all the bulbholders on your exterior lights, front and rear. It does sound like you are having a short of some sort and the best place to start is the bulbholders sockets.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
