Land Rover Repair: 1996 Disco no spark, no power at fuel pump, crankshaft sensor, fuel pump relay

Question
Hi John:
Recently my 1996 4.0 Disco died on my while running perfectly; it does not send power to the fuel pump and I'm not getting sparks on any spark plug. I changed the crankshaft sensor and still no power at the coils plug; also check for power at the fuel pump relay and is OK; all my fuses are fine and there is continuity at all cables, but I cant read any codes because I get a link error message on my OBD II. I can't think about anything else except for the so called "spider" hidden under the radio. Have you heard about this symptoms before? could it really be the "spider" or I am overlooking something simple that might be causing the lack of both spark and fuel on my Disco? Any help is greatly appreciated, I don't know what else to check. Thank you

Answer
You can check to verify that the ECU has the correct supply of power and ground.  After that, you will need a T4 or Autologic tester to see if the drive authorization has been lost.  If so, the spider is probably the culprit, but you can't verify or fix the problem without a proper LR test system.  It does not set an OBD fault and there is no other way to pick it up.
