Land Rover Repair: 2003 LR Disco II Brake Lights, using a multimeter, auto electrician

Question
Hello - I am having the same problem as Eric (re:Aug question about 'my left brake light goes out when I hit the brakes... but only when the headlights are turned on')  I am not sure how to check the wiring harness - but if it is ok and the fuse is ok, can I assume it needs to go to the shop?

Thanks in advance for your time and kind consideration,
Kurt Wilson

Answer
Hi Kurt,

the problem could be in the brake pedal switch, it could be the engine compartment link (50 amp), it could be fuse 25 (15 amp), the multiplug connector, the bulb...  quite a few places to verify.

If your brake light is failing chances are there is a short somewhere.  If you are not familiar with using a multimeter,, you could take your Disco to an auto electrician and not necessarily the dealership.  May even save you money.

Even if the fuse or bulb 'looks' good, try using a new one to be sure.

I've seen a lot of brake switch problems and tend to lean towards that as the cause.

Best of luck,
