Land Rover Repair: Squealing Noise, fan clutch, heater fan

Question
Hi John, I have a 2001 Disco II with 90,000 miles on it.  It has been making this squealing noise only when the weather is cold and I think only when the heater is on.  Eventually though, when the vehicle warms up the noise goes away.  At first I thought it was the heater fan motor but I figure it would do this when the A/C was on also, which it does not.  I've heard it could be the bearings in the water pump going bad as well as the viscous fan clutch...actually the viscous fan clutch not being viscous when it is cold and putting extra stain on the water pump.  Also, it is more predominant while I am accelerating as opposed to idling.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Remove the serpentine belt and run the motor for a minute cold.  If there's no noise, you know it's in the belt driven accessories.  If there is a noise, look at the secondary air pump.

If the nise is belt driven, spin each accessory by hand and you will probably find the answer - one will be rough or tight
