Land Rover Repair: 95 disco wiring issue, rear window defroster, luggage compartment

Question
Hi John. I'm going crazy trying to identify a problem with the left hand side
lights on a '95 Disco. The rear left side bumper marker light, left rear bumper
light(next to amber blinker), left rear running light in cluster and the license
plate lights don't work. But the blinker, reverse, fog and brake lights do work
which show I'm getting power. I've changed bulbs, checked fuses and wires
and can't find the problem. One other thing, the previous owners dog chew
up the wires on the left side of the rear window defroster. And while I've
made the repair maybe that has something to do with it. Thanks so much for
your help. I'm excited for your response.   John

Answer
Hi John,

I recall reading many years ago something about the rear defrost and that if damaged it would impact the electrical.  Check the window heater lines and repair or replace if necessary.  Its possible that the dog scratched the rear window and may have caused a break (pardon the pun).  Could it be that the one of the lines is broken?

Did you also check inside the bulbholders?  I had to replace a few of my lights because of corrosion within the bumper bulbholders.  The terminals became corroded and shorted out the lights.

The sidemarker lighbulb holder can also corrode and short out the electricals on that circuit.

IF all the bulbs, wiring and terminals are good then I'd take a closer look at the damaged rear defrost.  Check to see if the side mirrors are defrosting.  IF they are not working then you may have found the problem.

Also check ground, right hand side luggage compartment behind trim.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
