Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Discovery I ,95, land rover discovery, neutral safety switch

Question
QUESTION: Transmission temperature light comes on. Sometimes comes on when the vehicle is started and sometimes comes on after the vehicle runs for awhile. The light seems change intesity from dim to bright. Temperature seems to be OK Transmission functions fine...replaced the sensor and still the same problem. Is there a relay or transducer in the system somewhere that may be causing a problem?

ANSWER: The transmission temperature sensor is screwed into the oil cooler line, adjacent to the power steering box, on the left hand side of the radiator.  It is more than likely a faulty sensor, which you can replace, but it would probably be a good idea to service your transmission as well.

QUESTION: Thanks for your response. I wasn't aware of this sensor nor
was the mechanic that replaced the sensor that's located on
the left, front top portion of the transmission. What does
this sensor do...do these two sensors work together?

Thanks again

Answer
The sensor on the left, which you changed is the neutral safety switch.  It disables the the vehicle from starting in anything other than Park or Neutral. It also operates the reverse light.  It does not work with the transmission temperature sensor in any way.
