Land Rover Repair: 96 land rover discovery wont start, land rover discovery, vacuum hoses

Question
i recently bought a 96 discovery (about a week ago) and it seemed to be running fine. unfortunately, this means that i don't have a personal knowledge of the repair/problem history etc of the vehicle. a couple of days ago i tried to start it and it turned over nice and strong, but wouldn't start. the next day i looked around under the hood and found that the three vacuum hoses on the left side were cracked and one had popped off. i replaced those, but it didn't change anything. i also checked the spark plugs to make sure they were plugged in, but still no change. the wires look new, they don't have near the amount of deposits on them as the surrounding parts. the battery is fine. my dad said that it sounded electrical since it had happened so abruptly. he suggested testing the plugs to see if they are getting spark. i plan on doing that tomorrow. i found one fuse that needs changing as well, but i have no idea if that is the problem. what else could be wrong? is there something else i can check?

Answer
Checking for spark is a good start.  Is it out of gas?  I'd also check the fuel pump - is it running?

It sounds like your first step - if you want to maintain it yourself - should be to get a workshop manual.  You can buy manuals from Atlantic British or Rovers North by phone or online, or buy web access direct from Land Rover at www.landrovertechinfo.com

You really need a manual for any further suggestions to make sense.
