Land Rover Repair: The importance of same tyres, freelander, transfer case

I have a 2002 Freelander and I am told that if all the tyres are not the same this could damage the computer. Could you elaborate on this? Does it mean same brand?

brand does not matter, diameter does.  I doubt the computer will be damaged but the differentials or transfer case may be.

If one wheel is larger than the rest it will turn slightly slower than the other 3, this will create considerable extra wear and tear on the drive-line from several different forces and cause strange wear patterns on the tires.  

As long as they measure the same (not just the same numbers on the sidewall) they should be OK.
