Land Rover Repair: 96 Disco elec. components not working, fuelpump, computer module

Question
hi john, i have 1996 landrover driscovery, im having problems with, brake lights wont come on, night lights, fuelpump, and antibrake light would not go off before it just before it started started, any think u could tell would be much appreciated, troy

Answer
Hi Troy,

the problems you describe could be related to the central computer module (ECM) of your vehicle.  This component links to the security system ecu and thus affects the electrical components you describe.  It could also we a major ground fault (short) as corroded harness and connectors are common with older LR's.

Best to have your vehicle tested by a shop that has the 'testbook' analyzer and perhaps this can detect a faulty module.  IF the dealership suggests that you replace the main computer - have them install one temporarily to make sure it does actually resolve the problem.  I have seen many dealers replace components not knowing if it will actually solve the problem or not.  Don't let them swap parts until they hit the correct problem - especially if you have to pay for them!!!

Best of luck,

JohnMc
