Land Rover Repair: 2000 Disco Heater core, massillon ohio, rust remover

Question
I have a 2000 disco 7-seater with SLS, ACE, rear air, and cold winter package...no problems everything has been fine...yet last semester while at school... I noticed I didn’t have any heat even when I ran the car for 30 minutes... luckily the heated seats and front and rear window defrog. worked without any problems.  so when I took it to Land Rover in Cincinnati, Ohio they told me that the check engine light (code p0455, I believe it said it was a vac. leak) in addition to the fact they measured the hose temp going into the heater matrix and the hose coming out of it and they came to the conclusion that the heater core was clogged and therefore would not be warranted for a warranty repair since it was a clog and not a defect. The ext. warranty has since passed and I have been doing all the work on my car myself since my father owns his own business restoring antique automobiles.
Having said all this my question is what do you think about putting in a used heater core from another vehicle which I can acquire for $50 + shipping or go the wholesale way through land rover for, i believe, $180. I have not had any leaks, smells, or anything of that matter inside the cabin.
In addition, I have the RAVE cd and I was curious if indeed I will have to dismantle the whole dash or if I can get away with just the blower moter and carpet on the passenger side and slide the heater core out horizontally…

sorry about the long email

Answer
We use to dismount the heater matrix and fill with agressive  boiler scale and rust remover fluid. Soak the inner parts in these for about 20-30 minutes and then check for flow rate with water form the hydrant.

It oftenly solves the problem.

Otherwise try to properly bleed the system after you re-mount the heater.
