Land Rover Repair: land rover transmission, land rover discovery, land rover specialist

Question
I have a land rover discovery 2001. Just purchased it. It was taken care of maintenance wise with 59000 miles. The transmission feels like its going over a washboard when it goes into 3rd gear. very slight but definitely noticeable. Does this sound like a major repair? Or does the filter and fluid need to be replaced. I am assuming the system is self contained because I cant find the dipstick for the transmission.  Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer
You might see some improvement with fluid change but the ones we've seen with shift problems like you describe have ended up needing new transmissions.

You should find a shop with the specialist LR electronic tools to talk to the transmission and see what's up with it.  This is a job for a Land Rover specialist, not a generic trans shop, as they will not have the Autologic ot T4 test system.

If the transmission is bad there are ZF rebuilders who can fix it or you can buy exchange units through LR.
