Land Rover Repair: Freelander rear door/window, land rover specialist, isolation switch

Question
I have a 5 door ’02 Land Rover Freelander. The tail door window will not operate with the key, FOB or the switch on the dash. It also will not drop automatically when I try to open the rear door. Cycling the rear window isolation switch does not resolve the problem. The rear door will not open at all.
I took it to my local independent shop, and they removed a panel on the right rear interior and said that they could hear what sounded like a relay activate when the switch was operated. Because the rear door will not open, they could not get the interior panel off the rear door to diagnose any further. The windshield wiper on the rear door operates normally.
Is there any way to get the rear door open? Do you haven any suggestions or recommendations to assist in resolving this problem?

Answer
The latch has probably failed.  A Land Rover specialist should have the skill to get the panel off the door without much damage so the problem can be fixed.  This is a good example of a situation where you need a specialist, not a "local shop."

You need someone who's had these apart before and knows the tricks.  There's no way to get that knowledge other than by taking apart many, many Freelanders.

Sorry there's no better answer.  This is not a terrible big deal, but I'd expect a $500 bill in the end.
