Land Rover Repair: 98 Disco 1 Window Popping, knucklebuster, management lessons

Question
Hi there.  Another question for you...and by the way, thanks for all the help in your threads.  My 98 Disco 1 front passenger window pops when I open it.  It sounds like it's catching on something.  It doesn't happen all the time, but when it pops, it sounds as though it might crack...not to mention, it scares the poop out of my passengers!  I pulled the door panel off and greased all the parts i could get my hands on and it still pops.  Any idea what this could be?

Answer
Hi Ian,

thanks for the kind words.

I had this problem with my series I Disco.  Turned out that the main rail that holds the window glass became loose.  It was catching onto the guide rails before moving into its correct position.  I had to replace the entire lifting mechanism (rivetted parts).  This could be the problem you are having.

This repair is a real knucklebuster and if you want to avoid signing up for anger management lessons...have the dealer fix this.  There is not much they can do other than repair the window so it should only cost you the parts and labour.  Not like having them 'fix' your engine...if you know where I'm going with this...  Could be $300 to $600.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
