Land Rover Repair: Freelander 99 Rear Window, independent mechanic, hell of a time

Question
Hi John, please help me once again. My rear window doesnt seem to open and close when i want it too, and my rear wipers are not working either. It goes down every now and then when im driving over bump too fast, however, it goes up when i push the button. But i go to push it again to go down... doesnt work. I got my car serviced a while back by a non landrover mechanic and he stuffed a few things up, and since the window and rear wipers dont work. Im thinking its more of a electrical fault rather then the whole regulator, what do you suggest? Ive done a bit of research and note some ppl say that you can check the mass connector to the body of the car situated on the right back side of car... would you suggest this? I have checked fuses already as well, which seem to be ok.

Answer
Hi Anastasia,

sounds like the rear window cable and motor is failing.  Its a difficult job to repair and for the sake of all that is sane, I'd suggest you have an experienced LR mechanic do this.  I know an engineer from Australia who had a hell of a time trying to fix his.  So imagine the difficulty you or I would go thru!!!

Rear wipers may be on the same circuit as window motor. You could try the mass conn. but it does sound like the window is not being held in place due to mechanical failure.

If you need to locate an independent mechanic near you, send me an email and I'll try to find one for you.

Regards,

JohnMc
