Land Rover Repair: RR 2000 Svc Eng Soon light, engine management system, typical cause

Question
I have a RR 4.6 HSE with 48k miles on it. The Serv. Engine soon light came on yesterday. My reading of the manual sounds as if it is emission related. What is your experience with the typical cause of this coming on? If it is emission related, can i buy a tool to re-set it?

Answer
The light is on because the engine management system has detected a problem or abnormal condition.  So the light does not need to be reset - the vehicle needs to be repaired.

If the problem were momentary, and ceased to occur, the light would go out all by itself.

I suggest you find a specialist who can scan the computer for stored faults and interpret them to see what repair work may be needed.
