Land Rover Repair: transfer case pops out, s yard, transfer case

my 83 range rover has problem with the transfer box. It has just suddenly started popping out and now wont stay in unless held. Is this fatal.. how can it be fixed.

If the transfer case pops out of range, you will have to remove it and replace the worn parts that lock the range in place. It's a 10 hour job for an experienced technician, and parts cost can vary depending upon what's worn.

You may find it less costly to find a used box from a breaker's yard.
