Land Rover Repair: o2 sensors and the Catalytic Converter, o2 sensors, independent shop

Question
I have a 2003 LR Discovery SE with 99K miles. I have had it to the LR dealer approx. 5 times over the last 30K miles with "Service Engine Soon" messages where they replaced the O2 sensors and spark plug wires several times. I am now being told that I need a new Catalytic Converter to the tune of $ 2,300. The factory warranty ended at 8 years or 80 K miles. Could the repeated problems with the O2 sensors cause the failure of the Catalytic Converter? Should I expect the dealer to replace in good faith if, in fact, the O2 sensors caused the problem?

Answer
The short answer:  No, you should not expect that.

I can't second-guess the dealer but I will say there maybe alternate sources of that catalyst at lower cost.  But is there a qualified independent shop to put it on?
