Land Rover Repair: fuel pump and gas tank recall, land rover north, gas tank

Question
I was checking out the sight and saw there was a recall on the 95 land rover could you give me specifics on the recall or where I might be able to find info.

Answer
Hi Veronica,

a couple of years ago, LR recalled certain LR vehicles due to a problem with cracks in the fuel tank.  My 1995 Discovery was one.

I was notified by LRNA (Land Rover North America) by post.  My LR dealer also sent me a nice letter explaining the problem.

The dealership informed me that LR would replace the fuel tank free of charge.  IF the dealership mechanics determined that removing the fuel tank would pose a problem for the fuel pump and/or fuel lines, LR would also replace them - free of charge.  I later found out that most fuel tank replacements usually required the fuel pump being changed.

What you can do is visit your local LR dealership and have them determine IF your fuel tank was replaced by the recall.  They can tell by searching the LR recall database with your VIN (vehicle identification number).

You could also contact LR Head office directly and make the same inquiry.

This is something that should be done.  It's free of charge and well worth the effort to find out.

IF you are the original owner...you'd know if the tank was replaced.  IF you are the 2nd owner (or 3rd .... ) the dealer can easily find out for you what service work was done - especially recalls.

Best of luck,

JohnMc

NB:  if you don't have much help from your local LR dealer...send me an email and I'll see what I can do for you.
